When it's bright outside and you're walking some place you've walked 1,027 times before do you ever close your eyes? You know, as you take those steps that are as familiar as the smell of grass. Or a cold glass of milk. Or any other small comfort that maybe you never thought of before.
Sometimes I do it. Close my eyes as I walk. To feel the warmth on my eyelids from that strong sun of ours.
And what can sometimes feel like the unsuspecting best part is when I open my eyes again. Everything, the whole world even, is brighter than it was before.
And when that happens, that extra brightness, I smile to myself and feel less silly for having closed my eyes in the first place.
Because I realize, in that moment, that small bit of darkness is all I really needed. It is all I really needed to brighten my world a little more. If only for a slight second.
And if you were to add up all the slight seconds. Maybe someday, if I keep closing my eyes sometimes while I walk on those bright days, I'll have a full minute of extra brightness. Imagine what I can do with that. A full minute of extra brightness? Something amazing, I think.

things to say.
It has been a while.
And lots has happened.
Lots, I tell you.
Good things. Surprising things. Happy things.
Life has happend, I guess you could say.
And I meant to write, really, I did.
I started many words, statements, paragraphs.
Put together, they might someday equal something great.
But sometimes I forget to have the time for things
like putting words together.
Which is something I miss.
So, for right now, the best I can come up with is this:
"it was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were suppose to be together... and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home... only to no home I'd ever known... I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like... magic."
Because I just can't get it off my mind.
It is a quote from a favorite movie.
One that I have posted before.
And for some reason, it has made more sense to me in the past couple of months
than I ever thought it could.
This is all just to say:
I'm back.
And I'm planning on staying a while.

what's in a blog?
So... 2009 was the year I was introduced into the world of blogging. And to be completely honest, I was so darn confused. What is a blog??
And then I did some research.
And then I found it to be quite fun.
And then I thought, heck, why not start one myself?
And then I was embarrassed about starting one.
And then I made it private.
And then I liked it (on my good post days).
And then I never posted things I wanted to (nothing of worth, because I would think too much about it).
{all during the above moments, I began exploring the kingdom of blog.}
I became intrgued.
inspired.
stalker-ish.
Because, really, who are these people spending their lives on the computer?
Let me tell you.
Awesome people. That do things, awesome things, and let other people read about it. They write beautiful things. and take beautiful pictures.
And then...
I remembered that I love to write. Love, love, LOVE...

I used to write.
{did that line just remind anyone else of Allie Hamilton "I used to paint..." ha. okay, probably just me} A lot more than I have been writing lately {praise the heavens for a certain creative writing class and an incredible teacher (emily dyer) that sparked my memory}. I have a book of poetry that I used to write in. I started it when I was 15 {I even won 3rd place in the school poetry contest my sophomore year at timpview (hey- I thought it was pretty cool! haha)}.
I find a sense of accomplishment when I finish a poem. It is a very...inspiring (for lack of a better word) experience for me. I love words. I love that they can mean so many different things, that they can bring a million and one thoughts to your mind and tie experiences together. I love that they can represent any and every emotion. I love that they can make you laugh or cry or relax. Words.
Now, the reason for my babbling about words and blogs...
I truly hope 2010 is a year of great things. I'm hoping that with every day I grow a little closer to the person I want to be and get to know who I am a little better. I want to share my writing with people and care less about what people think. I want to make decisions {real ones} and feel confident with the choices I have made.
All of that being said...
Here's to sharing little bits of me

Pure Brilliance.
"And if the surgeon is like a poet, then the scars you have made on countless bodies are like verses into the fashioning of which you have poured your soul." - Richard Selzer
Surgery and poetry are two things that completely blow my mind. I respect them both with all of my heart. And is that quote not just so deep? I think it's amazing. I wanted to say now that I absolutely love my Creative Writing class. And at this moment I would also like to give a shout out and thank you (even though she'll never see this) to my teacher Emily Dyer for making me read such brilliant work by authors like Bryan Doyle and Richard Selzer.
I feel like everything I've read has changed my life, even if it's just in the smallest of ways. This is why I love writing. The changing of lives part. No really, I adore the fact that that is even possible through something so simple, through something we use so regularly. Words can change lives. How cool is that??

Thank you for reading...
I would like to think that since I am now 19 years old, finished with my first year of BYU, and an extremely efficient time user, that I would be accomplishing plenty of brilliant things this summer. BUT, seeing as how I might have lied about the efficient part, I cannot think of a single thing to do yet there are so many things I would like to do.
Like...
Like...
- travel the world (at least London, Milan, Venice, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Santorini, Athens, Florence, Madrid, Paris...and all those spots around and in between!)
- do something crafty like scrapbook my pictures, learn to sew, or cook...?
- become better at the piano
- read all the books I've been meaning to read
- clean my room (not technically something I would like to do...)
- volunteer at the hospital
- decide on a major...and career path... frightening.
Yeah, I know, so many goals, so little time. And those aren't even all of them. Soo, instead of starting right away on those lofty goals, hows about I start a blog?
Okay, sounds good. Hopefully I will write as often and freely as possible on my blog, but who knows. I do know it shall be fun while it lasts.
